  7. This readme file contains important information about this
  8. PowerAlbum release.  It includes a list of new features,
  9. restrictions, and solutions to problems you may encounter.

  25. 1. Error Message Asking For Drive D:
  26.  
  27.   PowerAlbum DISC error messages are not drive letter sensitive.  That is
  28.   PowerAlbum asks you to insert discs in drive D: regardless of what
  29.   drive letter is actually assigned to your CD-ROM drive.  Insert your
  30.   discs into your CD-ROM drive, select OK to remove the error message and
  31.   run the program normally.

  34. Adding Video Files

  36.   If you plan on adding Video files to your albums, you must first
  37.   run Setup on the enclosed CD-ROM.  This will install the Microsoft
  38.   Video for Windows drivers onto your system so that it may be used by
  39.   PowerAlbum.

  43. 2. New and Improved Features
  44. ----------------------------
  45.   This release contains a substantial amount of new functionality.
  46.  
  47.     a.  NOTEBOOK STYLES.
  48.         There are 3 notebook styles form which to choose from. See
  49.         the "Options|Styles" menu item for a selection.
  50.  
  51.     b.  MULTIMEDIA SUPPORT.
  52.         You can now add Sound (WAV) and Video (AVI) files to your
  53.         albums.  If you plan on adding and/or playing video files,
  54.         you must first install the Microsoft Video Drivers by
  55.         running Setup on the enclosed CD-ROM.  You must have a
  56.         sound card properly installed on your system in order to
  57.         play sound files.

  59.     c.  PLAY SOUNDS AND DISPLAY PICTURES SIMULTANEOUSLY.
  60.         Select the "Picture|Assign sounds to pictures" or
  61.         "Picture|Assign pictures to sounds" menu items to
  62.         associate pictures and sounds.

  64.     d.  REMOVABLE MEDIA SUPPORT.
  65.         When adding pictures from removable media (e.g. CD-ROMs,
  66.         floppy disks, etc.), you can tell PowerAlbum the name of
  67.         the disk and it will prompt you for that disk later.

  69.     e.  AUTOMATIC ALBUM SCANNING.
  70.         Have PowerAlbum flip through it's pages and display the
  71.         entire album contents for you without touching a single
  72.         key.  You can select the types of albums items to display
  73.         (i.e. pictures, videos) and for the number of seconds.

  75.     f.  EXPORT PICTURES TO NEW FORMATS.
  76.         You can now convert your pictures to other file formats.
  77.         See the Picture Export Restrictions section for a list of
  78.         restrictions.

  80.     g.  IMPROVED THUMBNAILS.
  81.         Select Options|Preferences to change the number of colors
  82.         used.  PowerAlbum will support video cards which can 
  83.         display 16, 256, 65536, and 16 million colors.  If you
  84.         have existing albums, you must rebuild the thumbnails in
  85.         order to get the improved thumbnails.

  87.     h.  CREATE CATEGORIES AUTOMATICALLY.
  88.         You can now have PowerAlbum scan your hard disk and create
  89.         category names for you.  The category names can be based
  90.         on the type of file or the path it originated from.

  92.     i.  COPY PATHS TO CLIPBOARD.
  93.         You can now copy a picture or sound file path (or the
  94.         picture) to the clipboard as text for pasting into another
  95.         application's edit control.

  99. 3. Information for Calendar Creator Users
  100. -----------------------------------------
  101.   PowerAlbum is fully compatible with versions 2.10 and above of
  102.   Calendar Creator for Windows.  However, in order to access many
  103.   of the new features.  You must run PowerAlbum as a standalone
  104.   product.  This is because the menu bar is not available while
  105.   being run from within Calendar Creator.
  106.  
  107.   For example, if you wish to use a new notebook style, load your
  108.   album from the standalone version of PowerAlbum, change the
  109.   style and then save the album.  The next time you access it
  110.   from Calendar Creator, your album will be displayed in the new 
  111.   notebook style.

  114.   PowerAlbum 2.1 can also work with albums from Calendar Creator
  115.   for Windows, version 1.00.  However, to use these albums, it
  116.   is necessary to open a New album in PowerAlbum 2.1 and Merge
  117.   the old album into the new one.

  120. 4.  Picture Export Restrictions.
  121. ------------------------------------------
  122.   The following limitations apply to Exporting Pictures in
  123.   PowerAlbum:
  124.  
  125.     1)  No vector image can be exported to a JPG.
  126.     2)  No JPG can be exported to a vector.           
  127.     3)  No PCD can be exported to another raster format.

  129.   We anticipate that these restrictions will not exist in a
  130.   future release.

  134. 5.  Video Import and Playing Problems.
  135. ------------------------------------------------
  136.   If you cannot add or play video files try the following:
  137.  
  138.   a) Make sure you have installed the Video For Windows Runtime
  139.      drivers as described in the Installation section above.
  140.  
  141.   b) If you are recieving error message #675, select File|Run
  142.      from the Program Manager and enter "REGEDIT".  Once REGEDIT
  143.      is running, select File|Merge Registration File... menu item
  144.      and select the VFW.REG file in your program directory.

  146.      Exit Windows, and try again.
